Adult Fiction book review

Eye Candy by Jiffy Kate

Ready for more Viking Invasion in the small town of Green Valley, Tennessee? Eye Candy, Book 3 in the Fighting for Love series by the amazing, dynamic author duo, Jiffy Kate, releases today. Trust me, you won’t want to miss the story of Vali and Maggie.

Vali Erickson has abruptly left his home in Dallas after a girl he thought he loved betrayed him and broke his heart. He is joining his brothers, Gunnar and Cage, in the small town of Green Valley, Tennessee where they run the Viking MMA gym. Vali intends to lay low for a while, while spending time with his brothers and helping out with the marketing for Viking MMA. He knows his time in Green Valley will be short, but he is enjoying coaching Gunner. An added bonus is that he is getting to know Cage and Gunner’s girlfriends, Tempest and Frankie a bit more while in town. And those muffins Tempest makes for Donner Bakery aren’t too shabby, either. Good thing he has strict training and running routine.

Margaret “Maggie” O’Neal has lived a very sheltered life for her 24 years. As an only child, she was home schooled. Since graduating, she has been working in the O’Neal Feed and Fodder (farm feed store) with her parents and still living in her childhood home. Maggie takes pleasure in secretly writing for the town gossip column of the Green Valley Ledger as “Trixie and Tess. She loves to write and dreams of one day writing as Maggie O’Neal. But for now, she enjoys the thrill of writing the gossip column. The only ones who know her identity are her editor and he lifelong best friend and pen pal, Everly. Everly lives in New Orleans and even thought she has never met Maggie in person, they are the best of friends. Maggie is the epitome of innocent and inexperienced when it comes to relationships and romance. While covering the new self-defense class over at Viking MMA however, she crosses paths with her own personal eye candy, Vali Erickson. Something (actually a lot of somethings) about his giant, muscular body and the piercing, kind gaze he focuses on Maggie makes her feel things she’s never felt before. She soon finds herself looking for reasons to go back to Viking MMA and run into Vali. As it turns out, Vali can’t stop thinking about the tall, curvy brunette who took his breath away the first time he laid eyes on her. He knows he shouldn’t start anything on account of his going home to Dallas in the near future, but Maggie O’Neal has him under the best kind of spell.

As with the first two books in this series, I adored this small town romance with the perfect balance of humorous moments and steamy romance. The relationship between all of the Erickson brothers and their large family is so well written. It’s also cool to catch up with Tempest and Frankie from the previous books. And, there is a surprise cameo from some of my very favorite Green Valley residents…the one and only Cletus Winston and his banana cake queen, Jenn. I am always happy when Cletus is involved. I loved the story of Vali and Maggie so much, and I hope you do too!

Thank you to Smartypants Romance for providing me with an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

About the Book

Eye Candy, an all-new opposites attract small-town romance from Jiffy Kate, is coming February 16th!

Vali Erickson is the classic middle child—misunderstood, underestimated, and overlooked. He’s fine with it. Really. The overlooked part is actually serving him well during this phase of life. He’s in Green Valley in an effort to fly under the radar and regroup after a life-altering blow to his heart and ego. The last thing he’s looking for is a woman to warm his bed until one throws him to the mat and rocks his world.

Margaret O’Neal is an only child who has led a sheltered life. She’s used to being a wallflower. Her ability to blend into the background is what allows her to maintain her anonymity as a gossip columnist for the Green Valley Ledger. Since the Ericksons moved to town, she’s never felt more inspired, especially with the newest addition. Vali Erickson is the definition of eye candy—devastatingly handsome with muscles for days—giving her plenty to report about.

The more Maggie observes, the more she finds herself wanting things she’s only read about in romance novels. Admiring Vali from afar is good enough for her until their paths cross and she finds herself trying to stay afloat in uncharted territory—no labels, no promises, and WAY out of her comfort zone. Will this arrangement be what finally breaks her out of her shell, or will her heart be a casualty of the Viking Invasion?

‘Eye Candy’ is a full-length contemporary romance, and can be read as a standalone. Book #3 in the Fighting For Love series, Green Valley Chronicles, Penny Reid Book Universe.
