Adult Fiction book review

The Bribe by Willa Nash

The Bribe is the first book in the new Calamity Montana series by Willa Nash. Fun fact: Willa Nash is also the amazing romance author, Devney Perry. I can’t wait for the next book in this series, as I have immediately fallen in love with the town of Calamity, Montana and the characters in this series.

Sheriff of small town Calamity, Montana, Duke Evans, never expected to cross paths with two beautiful women in the path of a bison while out hiking on his day off of work. He takes pleasure in getting to know one of the women a bit more while he escorts them back to safety. She is beautiful and he finds he can’t stop thinking about her. Then fate intervenes again when he pulls over the same beautiful woman for speeding. But the name on her driver’s license is not Jade, the name he gave her in the woods, but Lucy Ross. Why is the famous singer/songwriter Lucy Ross in Calamity, Montana? And perhaps even more intriguing to Duke is why the beautiful woman is hiding behind a fake name and darkly dyed hair. Lucy is on the run from a very dangerous part of her life living in the spotlight of fame in Nashville. Can she trust Duke? She immediately feels an intense attraction to the Sheriff, so she offers him a bribe to keep her real identity a secret. Duke knows something doesn’t add up. Beautiful women don’t just drop in to Calamity from out of the sky. He doesn’t take her bribe, but he does vow to himself to keep her safe while she is in his town, and finds himself wishing that she’ll never leave town, as their attraction grows. Regardless of what their future holds and whether she goes by Jade or Lucy, Duke is head over heels in love with her.

I love Lucy and Duke’s story. Willa Nash knows how to write an angst-filled, steamy romance novel, that is for sure! This book was hard to put down, especially with the danger lurking from Lucy’s past. Readers can’t help but fall in love with Duke, right alongside Lucy. I can’t wait for the next book – which is the story of Lucy’s best friend Everly and a local Calamity resident named Hux.

The Bribe by Willa Nash is now live!

Duke Evans didn’t expect to interrupt a beautiful woman in a staring contest with a bison on his favorite hiking trail. He also didn’t expect to see her again after rescuing her from the surly beast. As the sheriff in Calamity, Montana, he’s had his fair share of surprises but none as pleasant as pulling over a shiny black car and finding his mysterious hiking companion behind the wheel.
Only, she lied to Duke. She gave him a name as fake as her hair color. According to her driver’s license, her real name is Lucy Ross, the famous country music singer whose sudden disappearance has been a hot topic in the media over the past two weeks.
He’s not sure why Lucy lied about her identity or why she’s in Calamity. And she’s not talking. Instead, she offers him a bribe to keep her secret.
But Duke doesn’t want her money. He wants to know why this woman is on the run. And as long as the star shines on his badge, he’s going to find out.
